WHAT ARE WE LEARNING...December
Religion: In religion we will be learning many things this year that will help us to grow spiritually. We continue the year by learning about all the different types of prayer. We finish up unit one and take our test on the six lessons. Next we move on to unit two where we will begin to study some church history. We will also learn about Advent and Christmas. We will complete a fun activity in which we will try to guess the biblical meaning of each of the 12 Days of Christmas. We will complete two bible activities which will help us learn about the character traits befitting a Catholic who follows Jesus Christ Finally, we will continue a discussion about the importance of miracles in our faith and watch a video... about miracles that surround a boy who survived a rare form of cancer. The movie is entitled "The Miracle of the Cards".
Literature: In Literature we continue the year by watching the movie of The Diary of Anne Frank. Next, we begin a unit on poetry. We will read and analyze several poems both together as a class and in groups. We will also try our hand at writing 12 different styles which we will compile into a Poetry Anthology. We will also complete two ESCAPE ROOMS which will allow us to practice both main ideas and literature genres.
English 8: In English, we continue the year by finishing PRONOUNS. Next we move on to ADJECTIVES. We will become the teachers of this chapter and work in small groups to plan a lesson about pronouns. Then we will teach our lessons and even grade the homework we give out. Games and activities as well as some written and oral work will help us understand the concepts. We will also do some work with exact wording and proofreading skills. Our creative writing for the month will surround poetry. We will begin by learning about the different types of figurative language. We will then complete a Webquest which will allow us to work with each type. We will complete a poster project allowing us to create our own examples of figurative language. Then we will move on to writing 12 types of poetry as we create our own poetry booklets. We will also learn to write a variety of essays this year and we will continue with the personal style. Our third essay will be our final personal essay. We will get to choose our own theme and write an essay about it.
Algebra I: This year we will be studying Algebra and it will use many of the skills you learned in Pre-Algebra. In December we will move on to linear equations and learn about how to graph lines. We will learn about slope, standard form, slope intercept form. and point slope form. We will also learn how to graph parallel and perpendicular lines. Toward the end of the month we will learn all about solving and graphing inequalities. www.algebra1.com is a great website that goes along with our book and I will encourage you to use it often during the school year, especially when preparing for tests. Using the Smart Board, whiteboards, Brain Pops, games and of course partner and individual work...you will grasp the concepts and be amazed at the math work you will be doing.
Pre -Algebra 7: Welcome to seventh grade Math! We continue the year by studying rational numbers! This chapter will have us performing all types of problems with all kinds of fractions. www.pre-alg.com is a great website that goes along with our book and I will encourage you to use it often during the school year, especially when preparing for tests.
